They <br />are very conscious of this. <br />Commissioner Scurlock then inquired about the roof, and <br />Mr. Howell stated that it is to be single ply or built up <br />membrane for the final roof with a slope of 1/4" per foot; it is <br />a flat roof that is internally drained and has emergency draining <br />for any overflow from delugetype rains. <br />Commissioner Bird asked if there are quite a few skylights, <br />and Mr. Ugowski advised that there is one area where they may <br />consider having skylights in the roof, but mainly the light comes <br />in horizontally from the sides of the building. <br />Commissioner Eggert reviewed the various rooms that would be <br />located on the two floors, noting that fiction and children's <br />4. <br />areas and the technical circulation services are located <br />downstairs, and upstairs is to be the non-fiction section, <br />periodicals, reference, young adults, av/electronics, and the <br />Florida local history and genealogy room, which will become the <br />Julius Lowenstein room. <br />Commissioner Bird wished to know how much in the layout, <br />configuration and design of the building was done to accommodate <br />this particular site; in other words, if they had an unlimited <br />amount of land to deal with, would they still have designed the <br />same building <br />Mr. Howell emphasized that the site has everything to do <br />with the building; the two have to "marry" each other, and this <br />particular building is unique to this site. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that he was hoping to hear that the <br />building design was very flexible, and he then could convince the <br />Commission to move it somewhere else. <br />Commissioner Scurlock believed what Commissioner Bird <br />basically is saying is do we end up with a much more expensive <br />18 <br />
