MARINE ADVISORY NARROWS WATERSHED ACTION COMMITTEE REPORT <br />The Board reviewed the following Summary of Actions dated <br />5/24/89: <br />MARINE ADVISORY NARROWS WATERSHED ACTION COMMITTEE <br />Summary of Actions <br />May 24, 1989 <br />The Marine Advisory Narrows Watershed Action Committee met on <br />May 24, 1989 and discussed the following subjects: <br />1) Goals and Objectives for the Committee <br />A list of goals were submitted as follows: <br />D*R*A*F*T <br />The goal of the Marine Advisory Narrows Watershed Action <br />Committee are to improve and protect the quality and quantity <br />of natural resources of the Indian River Lagoon within Indian <br />River County by: <br />1. Reducing the quantity and impacts of stormwater runoff, <br />sediment, and pollutants entering the Indian River Lagoon. <br />2. Prevent further losses of, and work to increase the area <br />of submerged seagrasses, wetlands, and other wildlife habitat <br />in or adjacent-. to the lagoon by land acquisition programs, <br />restoration of degraded habitat, and by encouraging the use of <br />best environmental management practices and mitigative <br />techniques.. <br />3. Develop and implement an education and public awareness <br />program to acquaint the citizens of Indian River County with <br />the values of the lagoon and the impacts that individual <br />actions may have on the lagoon, and the responsibility of the <br />individual for care of the lagoon. <br />4. Support the designation of the Indian River Lagoon as an <br />Estuary of National Significance. <br />The Committee unanimously adopted the goals as submitted, <br />amending the first one to read, "Reducing the quantity, impacts <br />of, and improving the quality of stormwater runoff,..." <br />2. Overview of Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element <br />Rob Loeper gave an overview presentation of the Land Use <br />Element, and explained how this element ties all the other <br />elements together. <br />3.
