Ll <br />AUG 2 3 1989 BOOK <br />OBJECTIVE 3 LEVELS OF SERVICE <br />All future development will be consistent with the levels of <br />service established in this plan for public services and infra- <br />structure. - NO COMMENT <br />OBJECTIVE 4 EFFICIENT MIX OF USES TO REDUCE TRAFFIC DEMAND <br />Indian River County will provide for the location of employment, <br />commercial and other activity centers near residential areas to <br />reduce the number and length of trips on county roadways <br />- NO COMMENT <br />OBJECTIVE 5 _DIVERSITY OF DEVELOPMENT <br />Indian River County will provide for a mix of land uses which <br />permit and encourage a variety of development patterns and <br />densities to accommodate a diversity of lifestyles. <br />- NO COMMENT <br />OBJECTIVE 6 AGRICULTURAL PROTECTION <br />Indian River County will ensure that adequate land will be set <br />aside for agricultural production and protected from encroachment <br />by other uses. <br />Mrs. Offutt noted that she can certainly agree that <br />agriculture and citrus are stalwarts of our economy. However, <br />what is "adequate" land for that purpose, who determines what it <br />is, and how does the County decide this is an industry we will <br />protect? <br />Commissioner Eggert believed it always has been the county's <br />policy to protect the agricultural lands that were there. <br />Mrs. Offutt could understand protection, but questioned how <br />you say you will "ensure that adequate land will be set aside for <br />agricultural production....." <br />Director Keating noted that if you look at the policies and <br />the map, you will see that the primary concern is to protect the <br />agriculturally designated land on the map, all of which is <br />located west of 1-95. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that actually thousands of acres of <br />the most productive groves in this county are still east of 1-95, <br />and Director Keating advised that is where you get the trade-off; <br />10 <br />
