County Attorney <br />DATE: December 13, 1989 <br />RE: AUTHORIZATION OF ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS <br />TO ISSUE CITATIONS <br />Effective October 1, 1989, Florida Statutes §828.27 was <br />amended to require that any animal control officers not <br />authorized to issue citations prior to January 1, 1990, <br />shall be required to complete a 40 -hour minimum standards <br />training course. Therefore, the Board is requested to <br />,;.::authorize the following named animal control officers" -to <br />issue animal control violation citations: <br />Nathan McCollum <br />Deborah House <br />Richard Hollenbeck <br />.Ronald Borden <br />In January 1990 the Board will be asked to consider an <br />.::•.. amendment to our -.Animal Control Ordinance which wi_I I <br />-significantly improve -the means by which vicious dog <br />incidents are processed in Indian River County. <br />Commissioner Eggert thought these officers were already <br />authorized, and Attorney Brennan explained that last year the <br />Board did authorize certain officers to issue citations, but <br />since the law has changed in regard to the need for a 40 hour <br />training course, we wanted to get them all authorized at this <br />point. <br />68 <br />
