PROCLAMATION <br /> RECOGNIZING THE SUPPORT ALLIANCE FOR EMERGENCY RESILIENCY <br /> (SAFER) INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br /> WHEREAS, SAFER Indian River County, Inc. (Support Alliance For Emergency Resiliency) <br /> was established on November 16, 2012; and <br /> WHEREAS, SAFER Indian River County is a non-profit humanitarian association of <br /> businesses, non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, individuals and government agencies <br /> whose mission is to reduce loss of life, injury, property damage, environmental impact and economic <br /> loss due to a disaster; and <br /> WHEREAS, major local emergencies (floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, chemical spills, acts of <br /> terrorism, epidemics and other large scale incidents) can overwhelm even the most professional and <br /> well-staffed local emergency response systems, thereby creating a need for assistance from <br /> properly trained volunteers, CERT teams and outside resources; and <br /> WHEREAS, only a presidentially declared disaster will provide federal disaster assistance <br /> and a fully functional SAFER Indian River County will assist the residents of Indian River County <br /> who have unmet needs due to a local disaster; and <br /> WHEREAS, a fully functional SAFER Indian River County provides valuable services to the <br /> citizens of our County such as providing disaster training and preparedness and provides a greater <br /> predictability of our local resources during times of an emergency; and <br /> WHEREAS, SAFER Indian River County's ability to augment existing resources and <br /> response systems in our communities will speed up community recovery and minimize the long-term <br /> economic losses that often follow emergencies and disasters. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Indian River County Board of <br /> Commissioners fully supports the concept and function of the Support Alliance For Emergency <br /> Resiliency (SAFER) Indian River County. Be it further resolved that the Board encourages its citizens, <br /> employees and associates to give their time and expertise to the Support Alliance For Emergency <br /> Resiliency (SAFER) in the service of our Indian River County communities. <br /> Adopted this 17t" day of September, 2013. <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> Joe .
