Phase I construction will provide initial beach access <br />and parking along approximately 30% of the total beach <br />frontage or development of approximately 250 of the <br />total park acreage. <br />Within this developed acreage more than 40% of the <br />native vegetation will be preserved. <br />Alternative No. 2 <br />Put the development of Treasure Shores Park on hold for <br />two years. <br />RECOMMMATIONS AND FUNDING <br />Due to the limited scope and overall impact of Phase I, it is <br />recommended that Alternative #1 be approved whereby the <br />County proceeds with implementing Phase I construction of <br />Treasure Shores Park. <br />Commissioner Bird felt that, as far as he was concerned, to <br />delay construction for two years is a very unreasonable request, <br />since we are making every effort to develop this park in a very <br />passive way and the delay might jeopardize the $120,000 grant <br />from the State. His recommendation would be that we respectfully <br />decline to delay development of the park. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner.. Bird that the Board <br />respectfully decline to delay the development of Phase <br />I of Treasure Shores Park. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Bowman understood that the <br />Board would be authorizing just the development of Phase I today, <br />and Director Davis assured her that almost 1000 of the coastal <br />hammock will be left intact. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. The Motion <br />was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />Commissioner Bowman didn't understand how Earl Possardt <br />could have rejected a plan such as this, and suggested that we <br />73 BOOK U0 PAGE <br />
