PROCLAMATION �•� <br /> DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 18-22, 2013 AS <br /> BULLYING PREVENTION AND AWARENESS WEEK <br /> WHEREAS, bullying is physical, verbal, sexual or emotional harm or intimidation directed at a person or <br /> group of people; and <br /> WHEREAS, bullying occurs in neighborhoods, playgrounds, and schools, and through technology such as <br /> the internet and cell phones; and <br /> WHEREAS, targets of bullying are more likely to acquire physical, emotional and learning problems, and <br /> students who are repeatedly bullied often fear such activities as riding the bus, going to school, and attending <br /> community activities; and <br /> WHEREAS, children who bully are at greater risk of engaging in more serious violent behaviors; and <br /> WHEREAS, children who witness bullying oftep feel less secure, more fearful, and intimidated; and <br /> WHEREAS, a large percentage of children who are bullied believe that adult help is infrequent and <br /> ineffective; and <br /> WHEREAS, Whole Child Indian River and Connected 4 Kids Coalition work together to enhance the <br /> learning experiences of young people, promote good citizenship, and generally help make schools, neighborhoods, <br /> and playgrounds safe and secure; and <br /> WHEREAS, all leaders, especially those in education, law enforcement, government, and business should <br /> eagerly collaborate with each other to focus public attention on school and community safety, and identify, promote <br /> nd develop innovative answers to these critical issues; and <br /> WHEREAS, the observance of Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week will sustainably promote efforts to <br /> provide children with positive and safe learning and recreational climates. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board designates November 18 through November 22, 2013 as <br /> Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week, and calls on all citizens to engage in awareness and prevention <br /> activities designed to make our community safer for all children and adolescents. <br /> Duly adopted this 19th day of November, 2013 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> v 1, se .
