<br /> TASK FORCE INITIATED
<br /> On July 15, 1999 the Board of County Commissioners requested a task force of agencies who
<br /> contribute to economic development in the Gifford community be brought together by the Indian
<br /> River County Chamber of Commerce to:
<br /> 1. look at distressed areas of the County;
<br /> 2. identify common issues in order to avoid duplication of services;
<br /> 3. create a listing of findings;
<br /> 4. make recommendations back to the County Commission.
<br /> The purpose of this report is to provide the County Commission the findings of this Ad-Hoc Task
<br /> Force:named the "Workforce Enhancement Task Force." The group began meeting in AuDLst
<br /> 1999 and addressed the Gifford community. They discussed items such as how to develop jobc
<br /> and careers, promoting mainstream employment opportunities, transportation, li;htinR and other
<br /> topics wr_.,uh Iinust 'be included when looking at now Elie peopie, young and old alike, u: tills
<br /> community view themselves;, their opportunities to get a job and a better job, how they live, and
<br /> how they communicate their needs and concerns within and outside the community.
