_I <br />BOOK <br />Commissioner Scurlock assumed there would be a structured type <br />of program for the volunteers, and Attorney O'Brien advised that <br />the volunteers are required to have 40 hours of training and that <br />they would operate under the Sheriff's Dept. <br />Chairman Eggert explained that this just sets up the <br />possibility for such a program; it doesn't establish the program. <br />Attorney O'Brien suggested that we notify the Sheriff of the <br />public hearing on the proposed ordinance and ask him if there is <br />anything else we should do because he believed the Sheriff or the <br />County would have to set up a separate violation citation rather <br />than use the standard parking violation ticket form. He also <br />suggested that we notify the City of Vero Beach before this public <br />hearing so that we can get their input. <br />Chairman Eggert agreed we should do that. <br />Commissioner Bowman suggested that in order to make this more <br />effective, we authorize decals on the existing handicapped signs <br />stating there is a $250 fine for parking illegally in handicapped <br />parking spaces. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Commissioner Wheeler being absent) scheduled a <br />public hearing for June 23, 1992 to consider <br />adoption of an ordinance increasing the penalty <br />for parking violations in disabled parking spaces. <br />J.
