Discussion ensued on having an employee outreach program <br />regarding the most cost-effective treatment and medication <br />options. Director Brown provided a spreadsheet showing that <br />many medications cost less at certain Canadian dispensaries. <br />Christian Bergstrom, from the County's insurance broker, <br />Gehring Group, answered the Board's questions about which <br />medications are covered under the proposed health plan. <br />The Chairman called a recess at 10:46 a.m., and reconvened the <br />meeting at 10:58 a.m., with all members present. <br />The Chairman invited public comment. <br />John O'Connor, President of the International Association of <br />Firefighters Local 2201, discussed the Union's commitment to <br />employee preventive maintenance and wellness initiatives. He <br />also spoke on the possibility of a County -run clinic or pharmacy <br />as a cost -savings measure. <br />Commissioners Davis and Flescher mentioned that the Indian <br />River County School Board has reportedly had issues with its <br />health clinic, and that the Board would need to perform due <br />diligence before considering that option. Commissioner <br />O'Bryan mentioned the annual County Health Fair, which <br />provides several inexpensive tests for employees. <br />Becky Thompson, Nationwide Retirement Solutions, discussed <br />post -employment health insurance. <br />Sheriff Deryl Loar commended staff and voiced support for the <br />proposed health care initiatives. <br />Steve Myers, Business Agent, and Chuck Kirby, Chief Steward, <br />both of Teamsters Local 769, expressed concerns about keeping <br />down the health care costs of current employees and retirees. <br />Mr. Myers also encouraged the Board to move ahead with an <br />employee wellness clinic. <br />Director Brown stated that there would be no changes to co- <br />payments, deductibles, or out-of-pocket maximum costs. <br />County Insurance Broker Christian Bergstrom, Gehring <br />Group, discussed the cost containment measures in the Blue <br />Options Plan. <br />Board of County Commission Minutes <br />June 21, 2016 Page 13 <br />
