�� e I <br />> BOOK 6 I PA,r� • J <br />Policy 3.7: The county, through the Housing Element of the <br />Comprehensive Plan and the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, <br />will increase the amount of affordable housing in the county to <br />accommodate an expanded labor force. <br />Policy 3.8: The county shall encourage private utility companies <br />to provide natural gas to the county, particularly to commercial <br />and industrial nodes. <br />OBJECTIVE 4 IMPROVED PRO -ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PERCEPTION <br />By 1995, the county will develop an enhanced reputation regarding <br />its support of economic development. <br />Policy 4.1: The Indian River County Council of_100 shall on an <br />annual basis -prepare and submit to the EDC for -approval a program <br />to promote the economic development opportunities in the county. <br />To the maximum extent feasible, the Board of County Commissioners <br />will provide financial support for the promotion effort. <br />Policy 4.2: The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce and the <br />Council of 100 shall promote economic development opportunities in <br />the county through advertisements in the media; newspaper and <br />magazine articles about the county; and personal.contacts. <br />Policy 4.3: The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce and the <br />Council of 100 shall act as a clearinghouse providing information <br />to businesses and industries interested in locating in Indian River <br />County. <br />Policy 4.4: The county and the Indian River County Chamber of <br />Commerce shall provide speakers to inform private citizens, service <br />organizations, and special interest groups, locally and nationally, <br />about the county's economic development positions and strategies. <br />OBJECTIVE 5 INTERGOVERNMENTAL COORDINATION <br />By 1993, the county will have an established coordination mechanism <br />with municipalities, the school board, and other public and private <br />agencies to ensure that the adopted Overall Economic Development <br />Plan remains compatible with their objectives and to solicit their <br />support. <br />Policy 5.1: By 1993, the county shall contact each municipality in <br />the county and request that the municipality adopt and implement <br />economic development policies. <br />Policy 5.2: The county, through the Indian River County Council of <br />100, will coordinate with local governments within the county in <br />assisting economic development prospects in finding suitable site <br />locations. <br />Chairman Eggert advised that we are in the middle of <br />discussions of business incentives and will be implementing some of <br />the goals and objectives of the policies more specifically than we <br />have in the past. <br />Commissioner Bird felt that one of the concerns of the <br />business community is the permitting process and whether impact <br />fees are fair as to when they must be paid. <br />44 <br />He addressed Policy <br />
