Davis, P.E. <br />Public Works Director - <br />FROM: Jeanne Breset <br />Interim Chie ffic Engineer <br />SUBJECT: March of Dimes <br />Sebastian Walk America <br />DATE: March 28, 1994 <br />The March of Dimes is planning the 3rd Annual Walkknerica in Sebastian <br />on April 23, 1994. The walk will begin at 8:30 am and be completed by <br />11:00 am. Approximately 300 participants are. expected. The walk will <br />begin at Riverview Park and use Indian River Drive north to Roseland <br />Road , one block west to Old Dixie Highway, south to Davis Street, east <br />to Indian River Drive and south back to the park. <br />Mr. Warren Buck, Division Director, March of Dimes is requesting that <br />Indian River Drive be closed to all but local traffic for the entire <br />event. Indian River County Sheriff's Deputies will man the north/south <br />closing points on Indian River Drive. City of Sebastian Police and <br />Indian River Radio Club members will man closing points on the <br />connecting streets along the event route. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The request for approval from the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners to hold the 3rd Annual WalkAmerica in Sebastian on <br />Saturday, April 23, 1994 and close a portion of Indian River Drive from <br />Riverview Park to Roseland Road from 8:30 am to 11:00 am is the proposal <br />before the Board at this time. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND FUNDING <br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners approve this <br />request provided that emergency access is maintained at all times and <br />based upon the success of the last .two, years events due to organized <br />traffic control. <br />The March of Dimes will need to provide Indian River County with an <br />insurance policy holding the County harmless and also secure an Indian <br />River County right-of-way permit. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Adams the Board unanimously approved <br />the 3rd Annual WalkAmerica in Sebastian on Saturday, <br />April 23, 1994, as set out in staff's memorandum. <br />107 <br />�� �,� �r.1�� <br />APR 12 1994 BOOK <br />A <br />
