Proclamation Designating April 24-30. 1994, as Crime Victims' <br />Week in Indian River County <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously adopted the <br />following proclamation: <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N -- <br />DESIGNATING APRIL 24 - 30; 1994 <br />AS CRIME VICTIMS' WEEK <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, public opinion polls clearly indicate that crime <br />and violence is the number one concern among all U.S. citizens; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,' -thirty-five million Americans fall victim to <br />violent crime each year in the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, every minute in the U.S., four women are battered, <br />one woman is raped, six children are abuse, and one person is <br />robbed; and <br />WHEREAS, victims play an indispensable role in bringing <br />offenders to justice and thus preventing further violence; and <br />WHEREAS, law abiding citizens are no less deserving of <br />rights, resources, restoration and rehabilitation than the <br />violent offenders who victimize them; and <br />WHEREAS, victim service providers, counselors, and advocates <br />should enjoy -full support from all public and private institu- <br />tions, entities -and individuals in their efforts to render <br />critical assistance to those whom our nation failed to protect; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, whether measured in dollars, domestic tranquility, <br />dread or death, crime represents the greatest,Athreat tp Americans <br />and America; and . <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County is joining forces with victim service programs, criminal <br />justice officials and concerned citizens throughout Indian River <br />County and America to observe National Crime Victims' Week: <br />• <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of <br />April 24-30,•1994 be designated as, <br />CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK <br />in Indian River County, and the Board reaffirms its commitment to <br />-address victims' rights and criminal justice issues during 1994 <br />and throughout the year. <br />i <br />Adopted this 19th day of April, 1994. <br />3 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Q111"nu t' <br />CWT. <br />Tippin,• rmaa <br />BOOK 92 PnF.213 " <br />I <br />
