We work together to fundraise, <br />administer and implement programs like STEP into K to prepare 4 and 5 -year-old children to <br />arrive at Kindergarten prepared to begin their academic careers. <br />We have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the SDIRC that clearly defines our role <br />and how we access funds for projects like STEP into Kindergarten, which would otherwise not <br />be available to the SDIRC to address important community needs like increasing Kindergarten <br />Readiness rates. <br />GOALS AND OUTCOMES <br />Goal 1: 80% of all students will score at least 80% or higher on the "Get Ready to Read" <br />screener. <br />Result: Pre-test — 63% and Post-test - 86% <br />Goal 2: 80% of students will score at least 80% or higher on the Kindergarten Initial Sounds <br />Probe. <br />Result: Pre-test — 34% and Post-test 66% <br />Goal 3: 80% of students will score at least 80% or higher on the Letter Naming Probes for upper <br />and lowercase letters and Number Identification Probes. <br />Result: Letter Naming Probes for Lowercase Letters: Pre-test — 46% and Post-test — 69% <br />Letter Naming Probes for Uppercase Letters: Pre-test — 59% and Post-test — 73% <br />Goal 4: Based on the pre -and post- Social/ Emotional/ Behavioral Progress Rating, students will <br />demonstrate a 25% growth rate. <br />Results: <br />• Displays respect and courtesy to adults: Pre-test — 14% and Post-test — 86% <br />• Works and plays well with others: Pre-test — 15% and Post-test — 83% <br />• Follows directions the first time: Pre-test — 42% and Post-test — 65% <br />• Stays on task: Pre-test — 38% and Post-test — 71% <br />A note about tracking progress: Presently, we continue to track the academic careers of the <br />children who participate in the program using a new program called i -Ready and will continue to <br />work with the SDRIC to identify additional ways to progress monitor children who are part of this <br />project. Pre- and Post -assessments were utilized to monitor progress of early literacy and math <br />skills, along with social emotional behavioral skills. <br />Program Implementation Progress: STEP into Kindergarten began for students on June 4, 2018 at <br />the following SDIRC locations: Fellsmere Elementary, Dodgertown Elementary, and Vero Beach <br />Elementary. We promoted the program with the Kindergarten Round -up and Pre -K Party on <br />Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Indian River Mall. This was the first day that parents could <br />register their children for Kindergarten and sign up for STEP into Kindergarten.
