was awarded after a committee comprised of a commissioner, the chief <br />judge of the 19th Circuit, the Public Defender and the County Attorney <br />determined that it was both cost-effective and efficient for the County <br />to enter into such a contract: - The Board of County Commissioners <br />then published and invitation to bid, and the contract was established on <br />a flat fee per case basis of $600.00 for non -capital felony cases and <br />$300.00 for misdemeanor and juvenile. <br />Mr. Long has agreed to extend the contract for one year (to December <br />31, 1995) under the same terms. <br />I recommend that the Board extend the contract on the basis of <br />satisfactory performance of the attorney and because of the savings in <br />attorney fees and costs to the County. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Adams, the Board unanimously (4- <br />0, Commissioner Eggert absent) approved <br />Amendment No. 1 to the Special Public Defender <br />Contract, as recommended. <br />AMENDMENT TO THE CONTRACT IS ON FILE <br />IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />H.
