Commissioner Eggert stressed that <br />planning ahead is enormously important to all of us, and she asked <br />that everyone be aware of and attend future Comp Plan amendment <br />meetings so that development can continue at a rate where everyone <br />can be happy. <br />Commissioner Tippin felt that urban blight to the south of us <br />has been the greatest teacher we have ever had. An awful lot of <br />planning has been going on for an awful long time. He felt that a <br />lot of people here should be asked to stand up and take a bow, <br />noting that we restricted this county to a 30 -ft. height. <br />Commissioner Tippin felt the good parts outweigh the bad points and <br />that not everyone can be happy about some things. <br />Executive Aide Alice White advised that the County Commission <br />office received 52 letters against and 1 letter for the rezoning <br />requested by Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Schlitt. <br />Commissioner Bird emphasized that we cannot base our votes on <br />what is popular out there. We cannot deny a rezoning request if it <br />meets all the criteria of the Comp Plan, etc. In addition, he was <br />not sure that we built Indian River Boulevard totally as a by-pass. <br />We also built it with the intent that it would develop as a <br />corridor of multi -family residential. <br />Commissioner Adams could not see a valid reason to deny the <br />rezoning request. However, she felt we need to address the <br />difficulty people are having in trying to get across U.S. 01 from <br />Vista Gardens. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Tippin, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Chairman Macht being absent) adopted Ordinance 95- <br />05, amending the Zoning Ordinance and the <br />accompanying Zoning Map from RS -1 to RM -10 for the <br />property located on the east side of Indian River <br />Boulevard near 8th Street. <br />FEBRUARY 7, 1995 75 <br />Boa PvL,c.'2'90" <br />
