Section 02810 <br />Irrigation <br />3 Verify that field conditions are acceptable and are ready to receive work. <br />Verify that utilities are available, in proper location and ready for use. Verify <br />all existing utilities. Commencement of work means the installer accepts <br />existing conditions. <br />3.02 Sleeve Installation: All PVC piping and all control lines that cross roadways or <br />pavement more than 5' in width, shall be sleeved. All sleeves shall be schedule 40 <br />PVC. <br />3.03 Excavation: <br />The Contractor shall perform all excavation necessary to install the system <br />indicated on Drawings, with any modifications made on site by Landscape <br />Architect to avoid existing vegetation or accommodate transplanted <br />material. This shall include all necessary clearing as approved by the <br />Landscape Architect and grubbing of any foreign substance encountered in <br />trench area. Extreme care shall be taken around existing vegetation or <br />vegetation that has been recently transplanted. Excavation material <br />suitable for backfill shall be piled at a sufficient distance from trench to <br />avoid overloading, slides, and/or cave-ins. All organic or unsuitable foreign <br />materials removed during excavation shall be disposed of off the site. <br />Provide and install additional suitable fill materials required for back filling of <br />excavated areas. <br />.2 Trench bottoms shall be smooth, clean, and free of all stones, stumps and <br />rock. If such materials are encountered in trenching, the trench shall be <br />excavated 6 inches deeper than ordinarily required and a 6" layer of sand <br />shall be spread to provide a firm bedding for the pipe. <br />.3 The minimum depth of cover over main lines shall be 24". The minimum <br />depth of cover over laterals shall be 12". <br />.4 It is the responsibility of the Contractor to determine exact location of <br />existing underground utilities and to avoid damage to such during <br />construction. In event of damage to existing utilities, the Contractor shall <br />restore same to their original condition. <br />.5 Trenches should be excavated to a sufficient width to allow a minimum of 4" <br />between parallel pipe lines. <br />3.04 Installation of Pipe and Equipment: <br />PVC pipe shall be protected from direct sunlight while in storage. Pipe shall <br />be kept clean and checked for presence of organic or foreign material prior <br />to installation. Each pipe shall be laid in accordance with lines shown on <br />the Drawings, and the pipe manufacturer's instructions. <br />.2 Prior to backfill, PVC pipe in trench shall be protected from direct sunlight <br />by covering with a layer of clean sandy material.
