IRC-1838 Indian River County <br />Main Library <br />Roof Replacement 05 31 23-3 Steel Roof Deck Repair <br />C. Commencement of work signifies Contractor’s acceptance of conditions. Any defects in <br />roofing work resulting from such accepted conditions shall be corrected to Engineer’s <br />satisfaction at no additional expense. <br />D. The following descriptions indicate roof deck corrosion levels by degree. All roof deck <br />areas are to be inspected and assessed a roof deck corrosion level of 1 through 5. <br />Following the assessment, the appropriate Remediation Methods shall be conducted. <br />Remediation methods shall follow the deck corrosion level descriptions. <br />1. Degree #1 <br />a. Red rust on top flange. <br />b. Dark brown rust scaling on top flange. <br />c. Dark brown rust scale removed by scraping/wire brushing to indicate minor <br />pitting of the metal surface. <br />d. Deck flutes discolored. <br />2. Degree #2 <br />a. Red rust present on any of the deck surface. <br />b. Dark brown rust scale present on any of the deck surface. <br />c. Entire deck sections (flanges and flutes) have been or can be readily <br />removed during examination or areas of decking are missing, up to 8” in <br />any one direction. <br />3. Degree #3 <br />a. Red rust present on any of the deck surface. <br />b. Dark brown rust scale present on any of the deck surface. <br />c. Entire deck sections (flanges and/or flutes) have been or can be readily <br />removed during examination or areas of decking are missing, from 8” to <br />13” in any one dimension. <br />4. Degree #4 <br />a. Red rust present on any of the deck surface. <br />b. Dark brown rust scale present on any of the deck surface. <br />c. Entire deck sections (flanges and/or flutes) have been or can be readily <br />removed during examination or areas of decking are missing, from 13” to <br />24” in any one dimension. <br />5. Degree #5 <br />a. Red rust present on any of the deck surface. <br />b. Dark brown rust scale present on any of the deck surface. <br />c. Entire deck sections (flanges and/or flutes) have been or can be readily <br />removed during examination or areas of decking are missing, 24” or <br />greater in any one dimension. <br />3.2 PREPARATION <br />A. Completely remove and/or vacuum debris from deck surface and ribs to allow for inspection <br />of existing deck, and to fasten existing and new decking. <br />B. Remove and properly dispose of all damaged decking (Corrosion Degree Level 5) and <br />back-out/remove deck fasteners in the repair area. <br />C. Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to prevent debris from entering building
