BOOK 94 F'"uC 851 <br />RESOLUTION OPPOSING EXPANSION OF SPECIAL RISK <br />CATEGORIES - RETIREMENT PLAN <br />Chairman Macht asked for addition of this item to the agenda <br />and wanted staff to formulate a resolution to the Legislature in <br />Tallahassee opposing the expansion of special risk categories in <br />our retirement plan since it would cost us $46,000 additional if <br />they passed it. (CLERK'S NOTE: HB 123 to include certified <br />paramedics and EMT's in the Florida Retirement System.) <br />Commissioner Eggert shared his concern, but understood it <br />already had been passed. <br />Staff was directed to double check the status of the bill. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Tippin, the Board unanimously <br />adopted Resolution No. 95-58 to the Florida <br />Legislature opposing including additional <br />special risk categories in the Florida <br />Retirement System.. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95-58 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE FLORIDA <br />LEGISLATURE OPPOSING INCLUDING ADDITIONAL SPECIAL <br />RISK CATEGORIES IN THE FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM. <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Retirement System presently includes a "Special <br />Risk Class" for police and firefighters which is significantly more expensive <br />for the County to fund than the category for regular employees; and <br />WHEREAS, the State has proposed including certified paramedics and EMTs <br />in the Special Risk Class of the Florida Retirement System which the County - <br />would have to fund; and <br />WHEREAS, over the years the State has enacted unfunded County mandates, <br />the escalating costs of which are putting a tremendous burden on the County's <br />general fund; and <br />WHEREAS, the cost to the County for each affected employee would be an <br />additional 9.92% of pay; <br />W <br />April 11, 1995 <br />
