5: Risk Management <br /> The next component of SMS is Risk Management; describing how Senior Resource Association <br /> identifies,evaluates,tracks andmitigates hazards/risk in the organization and on the transit <br /> system. Acceptable risk levels and mitigation measures are established. <br /> The management of identified hazards is a vital component of the Senior Resource Association's <br /> Safety Management System. <br /> • A hazard is defined as a condition or set of conditions, internal or external to the Senior <br /> Resource Association system, which when activated could cause injury, death, damage or <br /> loss of equipment or property. <br /> • An unacceptable hazard is a condition that may endanger human life,property or result <br /> in system loss. This includes harm to: <br /> o passengers <br /> o employees <br /> o contractors <br /> o equipment <br /> o and to the general public. <br /> These hazardous conditions must be mitigated or eliminated. Hazards may be observed in the <br /> operating environment,through procedures,during system modifications and capital projects, <br /> accidents, extensions or operational changes. <br /> Hazard Management Program: <br /> The Hazard Management Program applies to all Senior Resource Association employees and <br /> obligates everyone to constantly observe hazards in their work areas and report them to the <br /> Safety&Training Department or to their supervisor and/or manager. <br /> The overall hazard management program incorporates a system-wide hazard identification <br /> process,including activities for: <br /> a. Identification <br /> b. Investigation <br /> c.Evaluation and analysis <br /> d.Mitigate or elimination <br /> e. Tracking <br /> Senior Resource Association Department Managers/Directors play a key role in the hazard <br /> management process. Managers ensure the following elements of the hazard management <br /> process are present in their departments: <br /> a. Ensure employees have the ability to report hazards to managementin person or <br /> through the use of written accident/incident forms; <br /> b.Ensure hazards are placed on a hazard log for tracking and documentation; <br /> c.Ensure employees receive appropriate hazard management training. <br /> 96 <br />
