7: SMS Communication <br /> The Senior Resource Association SMS will use a variety of methods to communicate issues <br /> important to the operation of the SMS. This strategy will complement existing safety <br /> communication channels to make company personnel aware of SMS-related safety issues and <br /> their roles and responsibilities related to those issues.Effective communication is an essential <br /> requirement to ensure and demonstrate lessons-learned from the SMS as a part of the continuous <br /> improvement of the SMS, including: <br /> • Ensuring that all staff are appropriately aware of the SMS <br /> • Conveying SMS lessons/information <br /> • Explaining why SMS related activities are introduced or changed <br /> • Educating personnel on procedure for hazard and near-miss reporting <br /> • Promotion of the company's safety objectives,targets and culture <br /> SMS communications methods vary but will comprise of both internal/external communication. <br /> Internal Communication: <br /> Internal communication may be accomplished using: <br /> • Notice boards <br /> • Postings on the Continuum HR employee web portal <br /> • Regular safety meetings and/or training sessions <br /> • Telephone communications <br /> • E-mail <br /> External Communication: <br /> Senior Resource Association has determined that significant risks identified through the <br /> operation of the SMS will not be communicated to the general public unless required by federal, <br /> state or local regulations. Information regarding general SMS operation and specific risks <br /> identified will be communicated to the appropriate governing body as required only. <br /> SMS site communication will consist of regularly established activities designed to communicate <br /> and reinforce SMS policy and related elements to all employees,to include: <br /> • The importance of conformance with SMS policy,processes or procedure <br /> • Individual roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance with SMS Process <br /> • Changing SMS requirements <br /> • SMS performance data <br /> • Key results of internal/external assessments and audits <br /> • Other information needed to support the SMS <br /> Senior Resource Association is responsible for communicating events and safety information to <br /> all employees as appropriate utilizing authorized communication processes. <br /> 113 <br />
