BOOK 95 PACE 28 <br />PROCLAMATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS <br />Proclamation of Appreciation to Friends of the St. Sebastian River <br />Chairman Macht read the following proclamation into the record <br />and presented it to Carolyn Corum: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the invasive patterns of the Brazilian Peppers continue <br />to expand and choke our peripheral wetlands, killing <br />native plants, smothering homes for our wildlife and <br />destroying the beauty of our estuarine boundaries; and <br />WHEREAS, the Friends of the St. Sebastian River have effected a <br />program of pepper bashing to restore the quality of the <br />St. Sebastian River shoreline; and <br />WHEREAS, the goals of the Friends call for keeping the shoreline <br />clean, revegetating the shoreline with compatible plants, <br />and raising public awareness of the River; and <br />WHEREAS, the Friends have been pepper bashing for three years and <br />have cleared acres of peppers to the improvement of <br />Donald McDonald Park; and <br />WHEREAS, the Friends have planted hundreds of mangroves, cypress, <br />and dahoon holly to enhance the shoreline and provide <br />erosion control, habitat protection, fish hatchery and <br />aesthetic beauty: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Indian River County Board <br />of County Commissioners that the unending efforts of the <br />Friends of the St. Sebastian River to enhance and improve <br />the shoreline at Donald McDonald Park are greatly <br />appreciated. <br />Adopted this 16 day of May, 1995. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />/ ' / 'V <br />Kehneth R. cit, Chairma <br />Carolyn Corum accepted the proclamation with thanks and <br />advised that when the County is ready to go ahead with Morris <br />Point, off U.S. 11 in the north County, they will be happy to give <br />their assistance with that also. <br />2 <br />May 16, 1995 <br />
