Boa fv, f <br />Commissioner Adams questioned the big reduction in funds <br />available to Indian River County, and Community Development <br />Director Robert Keating explained that we probably got a <br />disproportionate share of the district's funding for the Jungle <br />Trail project. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously authorized <br />the submittal of application for funding for South <br />County Recreation Network. <br />Commissioner Adams requested that we go ahead and make <br />application for the Vero Beach Causeway Connector. <br />AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT FOR THE <br />EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FROM EXISTING NON <br />MATCHING GRANT FUNDS <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 6/15/95: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County C mmissioners June 15, 1995 <br />THROUGH: Doug Wright, Director I, <br />Department of Emergency"Services <br />FROM: John King, Emergency Management Coordinator- <br />-SK <br />of Emergency Management <br />It is respectfully requested that the information contained herein <br />be given formal consideration by the Board of County Commissioners <br />at the next scheduled meeting. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br />In 1993, the Florida Legislature enacted a funding mechanism for <br />the purpose of improving and expanding local emergency management <br />agencies and other programs through an Emergency Management, <br />Preparedness and Assistance Trust Fund. <br />On November 11, 1994, the Board of County Commissioners approved <br />the recurring Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance <br />Grant allocation in the amount of $71,924. The $71,924 grant was <br />reduced by $4,500 -to $67,424 as the result of a deduction by the <br />state for prorated costs to each county for a statewide satellite <br />communications network for all county emergency operations centers. <br />The Board at that .time used a portion of the grant funds for <br />continued funding of an emergency management planner position and <br />other expenses. <br />As authorized by the Board, the balance of the grant funds were <br />placed into a contingency account for capital improvements in the <br />Emergency Management Office later in the grant year. It should be <br />noted that any part of the grant funds not expended in this fiscal <br />year must be returned to the state. <br />61 <br />JUNE 27, 1995 <br />� � r <br />
