C1 <br />40 <br />i ir. <br />r <br />shall be reasonably free of weeds and other grasses. it <br />' shall be planted as soon as possible after being dug and <br />shall be kept moist from the time it is planted. <br />i <br />2.02 SEED <br />P" <br />A. General: All. seed shall meet the requirements of the <br />State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services <br />and all applicable State laws. The seed shall have been <br />harvested from the previous year's crop. when a low <br />percentage of grass seed or native seed germination <br />causes the quality of the seed to fail below the minimum <br />pure live seed percentage as specified below, the <br />Contractor may elect, subject to the approval of the <br />Engineer, to increase the rate of application <br />sufficiently to obtain the minimum germination rate <br />specified. No payment will be made for the added seed. <br />B. Delivery and Storage: Each of the species or varieties <br />of seed shall be furnished and delivered in separate <br />labeled bags. During handling and storage, the seed <br />shall be cared for in such a manner that it will be <br />protected from damage by heat, moisture, rodents, and <br />other causes. All permanent and temporary grass seed <br />shall have been tested within a period of six months of <br />the date of planting. <br />C. Purity and Germination: .All permanent and temporary <br />grass seed shall have a minimum percent of purity and <br />germination as follows: <br />1. Argentine Bahia Grass Seed shall have a minimum <br />pure seed content of 95 percent, with a minimum <br />germination of 80 percent. <br />2. Pensacola Bahia Grass Seed shall have a minimum <br />pure seed content of 95 percent, with a minimum <br />active germination of 40 percent and a total <br />germination of 80 percent, including firm seed. <br />3. Bermuda Grass Seed shall be of common variety with <br />a minimum pure seed content of 95 percent, with a <br />minimum germination of 85 percent. <br />4. Annual Type lye Grass Seed shall have a minimum <br />pure seed content of 95 percent, with a minimum <br />germination of 90 percent. <br />2.03 MULCH <br />The mulch material used shall normally be dry mulch. <br />Dry mulch shall be straw or hay, consisting of oat, rye, <br />of wheat straw, or of pangola, peanut, coastal 'B-�muda, <br />or Bahia grass hay. only deteriorated mulch which can <br />readily be cut into the soil shall be used.. <br />02485-2 <br />
