4& <br />elevation of the existing sod. Uneven sod which might <br />cause mowing problems will be rejected. New sod laid on <br />trap of existing sod will also be rejected. All sod <br />placed on steep slopes (greater than 1:1) shall be <br />pinned with a wooden pin to keep it in place. <br />C. Rolling: Immediately after completion of the sod <br />laying, the entire sodded area shall be rolled <br />thoroughly with the equipment specified. At least two <br />trips over the entire area will be required. <br />D. Watering: newly --sodded areas are to be watered by <br />Contractor as necessary to keep sod alive until the <br />Contractor is closed out. Dead sod shall be replaced by <br />Contractor prior to contract closeout. <br />3.03 SEEDING <br />A. Sequence of Operations: The operations involved in the <br />work shall proceed in the following sequence: <br />preparation of the ground, seeding, spreading, and <br />cutting in mulch. <br />B. Preparation of Area to be Seeded: The ground over which <br />the seed is to be sown shall be prepared by disk - <br />harrowing and thoroughly pulverizing the soil to a <br />suitable depth. The prepared soil shall be loose and <br />reasonably smooth. It shall be reasonably free of large <br />clods, roots, and other material which will interfere <br />with the work or subsequent mowing and maintenance <br />operations. <br />C. Application of Seed: While the soil is still loose, the <br />seed shall be scattered uniformly over the grassing area <br />and immediately mixed into the seed bed to a depth of <br />one-half inch. Unless other types of seed are called <br />for, permanent -type grass seed shall be a mixture of 20 <br />parts of Bermuda seed and 80 parts of 'Pensacola Bahia <br />seed. Quick -growing type grass seed shall be a species <br />which will provide an early ground cover during the <br />particular season when planting is done and will not <br />later compete with permanent grass. The separate types <br />of seed used shall be thoroughly dry -mixed immediately <br />before sowing, Seed which has become wet shall not be <br />used.. <br />U. Mulching: When mulching is called for, approximately <br />two inches, loose thickness, of the mulch material shall <br />then be applied uniformly over the seeded area, and the <br />mulch material cut into the soil with the equipment <br />specified, so as to produce a loose mulched thickness of <br />three to four. inches.
