40 <br />0 <br />f <br />SECTION 02204 <br />GRASSING BY SODDING <br />j 1. SCOPE <br />1 A. The Contractor shall furnish all materials, labor,equipment and supervision <br />required to prepare the soil, fine grade Ute area and establish a Healthy stand <br />of grass by sodding of the areas so designated oil the drawings and as specified <br />herein. <br />r <br />2. GENERAL <br />A. PREPARATION <br />t 1) The area to be sodded shall be clear of old sod and weeds. The area <br />shall be fine graded and the surface looseaied, by scarifying, if <br />necessary. If the soil is dry it shall be moistened to provide an <br />I , optimum growing condition. <br />i 13. FERTILIZER <br />1) Fertilizer shall be uniformly spread over the area to be sodded at the <br />rate of 400 to 500 pounds per acre. The fertilizer shall have a chemical <br />designation of 12- 8-8. Soil which has a PH of 5.0 or lower shall, If <br />directed by tite Engineer, have an application of dolomite lime stone, <br />but the amount of dolomite applied shall not raise the PII above G.O. <br />C. SOD <br />1) The sod shall be l5c%kioa unless otherwise noted or directed by <br />the Engineer. 'Flee sod shall be of a tough texture with a good ivat of <br />routs. It shall be free of weeds and other objectionable grasses. Ap- <br />proximately three days prior to cutting Utz sod, it shall be closelymowedandrakedtoremoveexcessgrowthanddebris. The sod shall <br />be cut with sufficient thickness to retain the root system intact. There <br />shall be a mininium of delay between (lie cutting of the sod and the <br />laying so that it is live, fresh and uninjured when laid. <br />1). LAYING <br />1) No sod shall be laid until the Engineer has approved the condition of <br />the prepared area. The sod shall be placed with the edges in close <br />contact. Where the sod is laid on a slope the pieces of sod shall be <br />lotig the joitils aitt! laid with staggered juinis to lutidinize %rosi0ii 1. <br />where the sod is laid in drainage swales and flitches the joints shall be <br />staggered in the line of flow for the same reason. After the sell is laid 4 <br />shall be brought into close contact Willi (lie soil by tamping, light rolling <br />or other acceptable means. Where the sod may slide due to the steep <br />slope it shall be pegged to firm soil with wood pegs. <br />022u4-1
