CI <br />0 <br />SECTION 02202 <br />EXCAVATION <br />I. SCOPE <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish all necessary labor, equipment, and <br />transpor(atton to excavate and haul material in accordance with [tie Plaits and <br />Specifications. <br />2. GENERAL <br />A, The Contractor shall excavate for [lie roadways, structures, swales, etc., as <br />shown on the Drawings and specified herein, and shall dispose of all materials <br />excavated at a site designated or approved by the Owner. <br />3. DISPOSAL <br />A. In all areas where excavation is to be done, all earth, rock, muck and other <br />materials shall be removed and separated as to suitable and unsuitable <br />nialcrial for backfill as deigned herein. <br />B. The Contractor may, for his own convenience, elect to temporarily stockpile <br />any portion of the excavated material at a job site location designated by the <br />Owner, for later use or disposal. The stockpiled material shall be piled in an <br />orderly manner so as not to endanger the work or obstruct roadways or <br />drainage within die designated job site location. All excavated unsuitable <br />material shall be disposer) of at a location designated or approved by the <br />Owner. All excavated suitable material that is not reused by the Contractor <br />within [lie job site shalt become tete property of the Owncr acid shall be <br />disposed of as directed by the Owner. <br />4. SHEETING AND BRACING <br />A. Where excavations may endanger workmen, existing structures, utilities or <br />other facilities, it shall be the Contractor's responsibility to immediately install <br />and maintain adequate sheeting arid, bracing per OSTIA specifications in <br />order to proicct said facility. No work shall proceed In such excavations until <br />the sheeting and bracing has been properly and conipletely installed. The <br />sheeting thus installed sliall be removed as (lie work- progresses or, at the <br />discretion of tire Frivineer; he cut off below finished grade and left in place. <br />Sheeting and bracing may be either steel or wood- it the option of the <br />Contractor. <br />D. Sheeting and bracing sliall be installed in a manner that will allow for removal <br />without injuring or endangering workmen, [lie work, adjacent siruc(ures, and <br />flue like. Voids caused by withdrawal of sliceting shall be promptly and <br />completely filled with sant) and compacted to a degree equal to the <br />surrounding soil. <br />S. DEWATERING <br />A. All water encouniered during excavation shall he promptly and completely <br />removed to a depth below the exposed excavation surface sufficient tui <br />provide a dry working surface.
