The Contractor shall furnish all materials, labor, equipment and supervision required <br />to prepare the soil, fine grade the area and establish a healthy stand of grass by <br />sodding of the areas so designated on the drawings and as specified herein. <br />2. GENERAL <br />A. PUTARATIDN <br />I ) The area to be sodded shall be clear of old sod and weeds. The area shall be <br />tine graded and the surface loosened, by scarifying, if necessary. If the soil <br />is dry it shall be moistened to provide an optimum growing condition. <br />MEMETUNKFAW <br />1) Fertilizer shall be uniformly spread over the area to be sodded at the rate of <br />400 to 500 pounds per acre. The fertilizer shall have a chemical designation <br />of 12-8-8. Soil which has a PH of 5.0 or lower shall, if directed by the <br />Engineer, have an application of dolomite lime stone, but the amount of <br />dolomite applied shall not raise the PH above G.O. <br />C.a C <br />1 } The sod shall be Bahia unless otherwise noted or directed by the Engineer. <br />The sod shall be of a tough texture with a good mat of roots, It shall be free <br />of weeds and other objectionable grasses. Approximately three days prior to <br />cutting the sod, it shall be closely mowed and raked to remove excess growth <br />and debris. The sod shall be cut with sufficient thickness to retain the root <br />system intact. There shall be a minimum of delay between the cutting of the <br />sod and the laying so that it is live, fresh and uninjured when laid. <br />:M- 101 s7 <br />l} No sod shall be laid until the Engineer has approved the condition of the <br />prepared area. The sod shall be placed with the edges in close contact. Where <br />titre sod is laid on a slope the pieces of sod shall be laid with so-gered joints <br />to minimize erosion along the joints and where the sod is laid in drainage <br />swales and ditches the joints shall be staggered in the line of flow for the same <br />reason. After the sod is laid it shall be brought into close contact with the snit <br />by tamping, light rolling or other acceptable means. Where the sod may <br />slide due to the steep slope it shall be pegged to firm soil with wood pegs. <br />***END OF SECTION**' <br />02204-1 <br />
