C> <br />a <br />C= 211-EXCAVA QN <br />1. SCOPE <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish ail necessary labor, equipment, and <br />transportation to excavate and haul material in accordance with the Plans and <br />s Specifications. <br />Z. GENERAL <br />A. The Contractor shall excavate for the roadways, structures, retention areas, <br />i swales, etc., as shown on the Drawings and specified herein. and shall <br />dispose of all materials excavated at a site designated or approved by the <br />Owner. <br />! 3. DISPOSAL <br />{ A. - In all areas where excavation is to be done, all earth, rock, muck and other <br />materials shall be removed and separated as to suitable and unsuitable <br />} material for backfill as defined herein. <br />I B. The Contractor may, for his own convenience, elect to temporarily stockpile <br />I any portion of the excavated material at a job site location designated by the <br />Owner, for later use or disposal. The stockpiled material shall be piled in <br />I an orderly manner so as not to endanger the work or obstruct roadways or <br />drainage within the designated joh site location. All excavated unsuitable <br />material shall be disposed of at a location designated or approved by the <br />Owner. All excavated suitable material that is not reused by the Contractor <br />within the job site shall become the property of the Owner and shall be <br />disposed of as directed by the Owner. <br />4. SHEETING AND BRACING <br />A. Where excavations may endanger workmen, existing structures, utilities or <br />other facilities, it shall be the Contractors responsibility to immediately <br />install and maintain adequate sheeting and bracing per OSHA specifications <br />in order to protect said facility. No work shall proceed in such excavations <br />s, until the sheeting and bracing has been properly and completely installed. <br />�} The sheeting thus installed shall be removed as the work progresses or, at <br />the discretion of the Engineer, be cut off below finished grade and left in <br />place. Sheeting and bracing may be either steel or wood at the option of the <br />Contractor. <br />B. Sheeting and bracing shall be installed in a manner that will allow for <br />removal without injuring or endangering workmen, the work, adjacent <br />structures, and the like. Voids caused by withdrawal of sheeting shall be <br />promptly and completely filled with sand and compacted to a degree equal <br />to the surrounding soil. <br />5. DEWATERING <br />A. All water encountered during excavation shall be promptly and completely <br />removed to a depth below the exposed excavation surface sufficient to <br />provide a dry working surface. The excavation shall be kept dry until the <br />work to be built or placed therein has been completed as specified. <br />Dewatering shall be done in a manner that will not cause sloughing or <br />caving of the excavation walls. Water from said dewatering shall be <br />disposed of in a manner as will not result in violations of State water <br />quality standards in receiving waters, nor cause injury to public health nor <br />za•i <br />
