FloriNet Enhanced Connectivity Grant - Library <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of November 27, 1996: <br />DATE: November 27, 1996 <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners <br />THRU: James E. Chandler, County Administrator <br />THRU: H.T. "Sonny" Dean, Director, Department of <br />General Services <br />SUBJECT: FloriNet Enhanced Connectivity Grant <br />FROM: Mary D. Powell, Library Services Directol4 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Secretary of State Sandra Mortham has issued the directive <br />that through the Florida public libraries all citizens in <br />Florida, especially children, will have free and equal <br />access to the World Wide Web. Library Services and <br />Construction Act (LSCA) funds have been made available for <br />this state-wide project. Thirty three public libraries <br />will receive grants of $3,000.00 each, and six libraries <br />will receive grants of $30,000.00. The Indian River County <br />Library System was the number one applicant and will <br />receive one of the $30,000.00 grant awards. No matching <br />funds are required. - <br />ANALYSIS: <br />The Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners' <br />signature is required on the two FloriNet grant agreements <br />(attached). <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Staff respectfully requests that the Board authorize its <br />Chairman to sign the grant agreements and return to the <br />Library Services Director to be forwarded to the <br />appropriate State Library staff. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Tippin, the Board unanimously <br />authorized the Chairman to sign the grant agreement <br />in duplicate and return them to the Library Services <br />Director to be forwarded to the appropriate State <br />Library staff, as recommended in the Memorandum. <br />PARTIALLY EXECUTED GRANT AGREEMENT HAS BEEN PLACED <br />ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />12 <br />December 10, 1996 <br />
