boor, j U" FAGS SOHO. <br />General Services Director Sonny Dean advised that he had met <br />with Mr. Champion and another representative of the GJCC this <br />morning to insure they understood the terms of the lease. <br />Chairman Eggert suggested that the County might sell the GJCC <br />the building for $1.00 with a reverter clause, and Commissioner <br />Adams felt that the County should take one step -at -a -time. <br />Director Dean advised that the GJCC representatives prefer the <br />lease at this time. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Tippin, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Adams, the Board unanimously found that <br />the use of the leased premises constitutes a <br />"community center" as defined in the County's land <br />development regulations, and authorized the Chairman <br />to execute the lease on behalf of the Board of <br />County Commissioners, as recommended by staff in the <br />Memorandum. <br />LEASE AGREEMENT IS ON FILE <br />IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />SUPPORT OF CULTURAL ENDOWMENT AND FACILITIES GRANTS <br />Chairman Eggert advised that a number of local cultural <br />groups, including McKee Jungle Gardens, Center for the Arts, <br />Riverside (Children's) Theater, have submitted grant requests for <br />state cultural endowments and facilities grants. She asked if the <br />Board would be interested in writing Sandra Mortham, Secretary of <br />State, and to our legislators in support of the funding. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Macht, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Ginn, to authorize the Chairman to send <br />a letter supporting funding of the cultural <br />endowment and facilities grant program. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Macht stated that Indian River <br />County is always on the short end of this grant. He believed that <br />an attitude still prevails that our community is too wealthy to <br />need grants. <br />Chairman Eggert thought the county was doing better in getting <br />grants from the state. <br />46 <br />March 11, 1997 <br />
