May 11 thromah May 17. 1997 and Indian River <br />County Police Memorial Day, May 15,199 <br />Chairman Eggert read the following Proclamation: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING MAY 11 - MAY 17, 1997 <br />AS NATIONAL POLICE WEEK AND <br />MAY 15, 1997 AS INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY POLICE MEMORIAL DAY <br />WHEREAS, the annual observance of National Police Week is May 11 <br />through May 17, 1997 and our county -wide law enforcement agencies are <br />having t1leir first observance of "Indian River County Police Memorial <br />Day" hosted by the Indian River County Sheriff's Office on May 15, 1997 <br />at 8:30 a.m. at the Indian River County Sheriff's Office Administration <br />Building; and <br />WHEREAS, the law enforcement officers are our guardians of life and <br />property, defenders of the individual right to be free men and women, <br />warriors in the war against crime and dedicated to the preservation of <br />life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County desires to honor the valor, service and <br />dedication of its own police officers; and <br />WHEREAS, it is known that every two days an American police officer <br />will be killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States, 136 <br />officers will be seriously assaulted in the performance of their duties, <br />and our community joins with other cities, towns and counties to honor <br />all peace officers everywhere: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of May 11 <br />through May 17, 1997 be designated as National Police Week and that May <br />15, 1997 be proclaimed <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY POLICE MEMORIAL DAY <br />and the Board calls upon all the citizens of this community to honor and <br />show sincere appreciation for police officers by deed, remark and <br />attitude. The Board further asks our citizens to make every effort to <br />express their thanks to our men and women who make it possible for us to <br />leave our homes and family in safety each day and to return to our homes <br />knowing they are protected by men and women willing to sacrifice their <br />lives if necessary, to guard our loved ones, our property and our <br />government against all who would violate the law. <br />Adopted this 6 day of May, 1997. <br />MAY 6y1997 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />62� - t_1 4�4 <br />Carolyn 61 <br />Eggert, , irman <br />2 <br />
