EO,1"; <br />Should any municipality decide to decline funding for this initiative, the County will receive 50 <br />percent (50%) of the amount calculated for that municipality to complete a general assessment <br />of vulnerabilities within that municipal area. The remaining 50 percent (50%) of the calculated <br />amount will be retained by the State to fund additional mitigation planning activities statewide. <br />Allocation and proposed expenditure of the funding identified for Indian River County will be <br />brought back to the Board for review and consideration at a later date. <br />RECOWKENDATION: <br />Staff recommends Board approval of Contractual Services Agreement No. 98 -LM -4H-1040-01- <br />031 between the Department of Community Affairs and Indian River County for the <br />development of a Local Mitigation Strategy for the County. All subcontracts with the <br />municipalities will be returned to the Board for review and consideration. <br />Emergency Services Director Doug Wright explained this is a program to identify any <br />problems in advance of a disaster to put the County in a position to obtain post -disaster <br />funding and to enable faster recovery from such a disaster. <br />Commissioner Ginn questioned how members are to be chosen for the working group, <br />and Director Wright stated that he has written to each municipality asking them to suggest <br />appropriate members. <br />Commissioner Eggert questioned whether interested citizens should contact Director <br />Wright and he responded in the affirmative. <br />Commissioner Ginn commented that the Regional Planning Council had a very nice <br />presentation regarding this program. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Ginn, the Board <br />unanimously approved the Contractual Services <br />Agreement No. 98 -LM -4H-1040-01-031 with the <br />Department of Community Affairs for the <br />development of a Local Mitigation Strategy, with the <br />understanding that subcontracts with all <br />municipalities will be returned to the Board for <br />review and consideration, as recommended by staff. <br />EXECUTED COPY OF AGREEMENT IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE <br />MAY 199 1998 <br />OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />-68- <br />
