B. affer, announced the State Road <br />department will assist <br />in <br />deepening this Ditch, and <br />agreed <br />to <br />do the work <br />with FBR& and <br />Mosquito control labor <br />if <br />the County will furnish 10 <br />cases <br />of <br />dynamite on <br />this project. <br />Henry Reed, Roseland, appeared before the Board and requested information as to the <br />reason why the Road Superintendent hauled, with County truck, groceries from west Palm <br />Beech to Vero Beach. Chairman Hamilton announced he ordered this to be done for the <br />benefit of th6se receiving relief in this County. He explained that the only groceries <br />hauled was articles furnished by the Federal Goverment to those in distress and in need <br />of food and this was the only war it could be conveyed to this point. <br />Mr Read also requested information regarding bridges burned in the County. He pointe <br />out that a bridge was burned, by woods fire, near L. Ashburner's place west of Roseland, <br />and wanted to know should those who set the fire to the woods be made to pay for the <br />bridge or should the County pay it. He was advised that if there was any way to make <br />those responsible for the loss pay the damages it would be done that why., and if not the <br />the County would have to bear the expense of construction of a new' bridge, or the necesse <br />repairs. <br />Mrs John Yates appeared before toe Board regarding relief she has received in the <br />pest and recently dropped from the pauper rolls. No action was taken. <br />Mrs C. A. Culbertson appeared before the Board regarding turpentine negroes setting <br />fire to the woods near Fellsmere between Ditch One and the Main Canal. The Board bgreed <br />to do everything possible to stop this practice. <br />Commissioner Midge requested use of the Speeder Machine by the ;Mate Road Department <br />on the Fellsmere Cross State Road District. It was ordered this machine be loaned by the <br />County, for the usual rental, after getting signed statement that the Road Department <br />will keep same in good condition, and also let the regular County operator operate the <br />same. <br />It was ordered that plats presented by the Indian river islands Corporation be <br />approved by the Chairman and filed in the public records. <br />The Clerk was instructed to write the officials of Brevard County and call to their <br />attention that dim Allen, a resident of that County is in Sebastian, sick, and in need of <br />assistance. <br />it was <br />moved, seconded <br />and <br />carried <br />that the sum of §400.00 be <br />appropriated out <br />of <br />the surplus <br />Race Track Fonds <br />to <br />purchase <br />$29000.00 worth of City of <br />Sebastian bonds, <br />and <br />the sum of §600.00 be appropriated out of the surplus Race Track Funds to purchase <br />*4 9000.00 City of Vero Beech bonds, same to be used in settlement of the percentage of <br />road taxes collected within the incorporate limits of the respective municipalities. <br />It was ordered that *200.00 be placed in the Fine & Forfeiture Fund and 0300.00 in <br />the Road & Bridge Fund out of surplus Race Track funds of the County. <br />The application for a Mothers Pension of Mrs Annie Horton, Minter Beach, was recei <br />and carefully considered, and it was ordered she be placed on such list to receive the <br />sum of $12.00 per month. <br />The application for a. Mothers Pension of Mrs Maude Crosby, Vero Beach, was received <br />and carefully considered, and it was ordered she be placed on such list to receive the <br />of $8.00 per month. <br />A letter was received from the City Clerk of Fellsmere, requesting the County forced <br />to do certain repair work on the streets of Fellsmere.
