EMERGENCY SERVICES PERSONNEL - <br />PARTICIPATION IN FREE ACCESS TO WALT DISNEY <br />ATTRACTIONS AND VERO BEACH DODGERS GAMES - (INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC ASSOCIATIONI <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of July 28, 1998: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Jim Chandler, County Administrator <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director <br />Emergency Services <br />DATE: July 28, 1998 <br />SUBJECT: Invitation For Emergency Services Personnel To Participate In Free Access to <br />Walt Disney Attractions and Vero Beach Dodgers Games <br />As a result of firefighters and other public safety personnel's efforts in suppressing wild fires <br />in the State of Florida during the past couple of months, invitations have been extended to <br />firefighters by Walt Disney Attractions. Vero Beach Dodgers, and additional invitations to <br />receive a free "Salute To Firefighters Pass" to include spouses and/or dependents. Other <br />invitations are expected from other theme parks in the State. Staff is also informed that under <br />a separate effort. the same will be extended to other emergency personnel such as paramedics, <br />emergency management, military, and law enforcement personnel. <br />Staff has received the attached letter from Walt Disney Attractions and Vero Beach Dodgers <br />detailing the offers as well as a request from Local 2201 President An Zyskowski seeking <br />permission for emergency services staff to participate in the promotions being offered. <br />In January, 1995, the Board approved revisions to Chapter 104 which allows for Commission <br />approval of such events on a case by case basis. Section 104.06 (5)(b)(8) states "The <br />prohibitions enumerated in paragraph (a) and (c) of this section do not apply in the situations <br />enumerated below: "... Local outings offered to all county employees or with prior approval <br />of the Board of County Commissioners, units of county employees." <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff respectfully requests the Board favorably consider this matter and authorize emergenc} <br />services personnel participation in the special offers being extended. <br />August 4, 1998 <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Ginn, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Macht, the Board, by a 4-0 vote <br />(Commissioner Eggert being absent), unanimously <br />approved participation in the special offers being <br />extended for emergency services personnel, as <br />recommended by staff. <br />-19- BOOK I U <br />
