JOHN'S ISLAND CLUB -INVITATION FOR COUNTYEMERGENCY <br />SERVICES STAFF TO PARTICIPATE IN "PUBLIC SAFETYDAY" GOLF <br />OUTING <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of September 15, 1998: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Jim Chandler, County Administrator <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director <br />Emergency Services <br />DATE: September 15, 1998 <br />SUBJECT: Invitation From John's Island Club For Staff To Participate In "Public Safety <br />Day" Golf Outing <br />Since 1990, John's Island Club has sponsored a "Public Safety Day" golf outing at one of the <br />three courses operated by John's Island. The inaugural tournament was proposed as an <br />expression of appreciation for the assistance in suppressing a fire at the John's Island West <br />Clubhouse. Since the inaugural tournament, the invitations have been extended to include all <br />county and municipal public safety agencies which includes firefighters, paramedics, law <br />enforcement officers, dispatchers, and administrative staff. <br />A letter has been received from John's Island Club General Manager Brian Kroh inviting all <br />Emergency Services staff to attend and participate in the annual "Public Safety Day" event. The <br />event is scheduled for September 20, 1998, at 9:OOAM. <br />In January, 1995, the Board approved revisions to Chapter 104 which allows for Commission <br />approval of such events on a case by case basis. Section 104.06 (5)(b)(8) states "The <br />prohibitions enumerated in paragraph (a) and (c) of this section do not apply in the situations <br />enumerated below: "... Local outings offered to all county employees or with prior approval <br />of the Board of County Commissioners, units of county employees." <br />Emergency Services employees did participate in the event last year after receiving approval <br />from the Board of County Commissioners. <br />RECONEMMATION: <br />Staff respectfully requests favorable consideration by the Board of the invitation from John's <br />Island for Emergency Services staff to participate in the golf outing. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Ginn, the Board <br />unanimously approved participation by Emergency <br />Services staff in the "Public Safety Day" Golf <br />Outing, as recommended by staff. <br />a <br />September 15, 1998 <br />
