Hinkle and Berry commented on the terrific team effort and appreciation <br />for the support of Chairman Adams and Coastal Engineer Jeff Tabar. They hoped the <br />establishment of new reefs and efforts toward that goal would continue for many years. <br />Coastal Engineer Jeff Tabar thanked the members of the sportsfishing association for <br />their assistance and for treating he and his wife like family. <br />5.B. PROCLAMATION -SOCIAL SECURITYWEEK-AUGUST14-20, <br />2000 <br />Chairman Adams read the following proclamation into the record and -presented it to <br />Steve Chandler who was representing the local Social Security office. <br />PROCLAMATIONA5(b)I <br />DESIGNATING AUGUST 14 — 20, 2000, AS <br />SOCIAL SECURITY WEEK <br />WHEREAS, on August 14,1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the <br />Social Security Act into law, thus creating the most successful government <br />program this nation has ever known; and <br />WHEREAS, the program pays Social Security benefits to more than 44 million <br />people and provides important financial protection to approximately 150 million <br />workers and their families; and <br />WHEREAS, we encourage the American people to understand the program's <br />effect on their lives and support Social Security in the 2111 century; and <br />WHEREAS, Social Security has been helping people live better for 65 years. <br />August 15, 2000 <br />3 <br />M <br />I <br />
