Mehta, P.E., Managing Director, Solid Waste Disposal District-, Ur. <br /> Subject: Recycling Update for the Town of Indian River Shores <br /> DESCRIPTIONS AND CONDITIONS: <br /> On April 21, 2015, the Indian River County (IRC) Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) Board <br /> approved the Solid Waste and Recyclables Collection Franchise Agreement to Waste Management, <br /> Inc. of Florida commencing on October 1, 2015. <br /> The recycling franchise area, as included in the procurement process, included all residential <br /> improved properties in Unincorporated IRC as well as the five municipalities of the City of Sebastian, <br /> the City of Fellsmere, the City of Vero Beach, the Town of Orchid and the Town of Indian River <br /> Shores. <br /> At the April 21, 2015 meeting, Mr. Robert H. Stabe Jr., the Town Manager for the Town of Indian <br /> River Shores (Town of IRS) expressed that they have a current franchise agreement with Republic <br /> Services for both solid waste and recycling services that expires on December 31, 2017. Therefore, <br /> he requested some additional time to meet with Republic Services and provide us an update before <br /> April 30, 2015. <br /> On April 29, 2015, Mr. Stabe submitted the attached letter indicating the following: <br /> 1. Republic Services will continue to provide recycling services to the Town of IRS, including <br /> back-door service, at no increased costs to the Town of IRS. <br /> 2. Republic Services will collect the recyclables in a single stream manner (albeit using the blue <br /> bins) and will bring all of the residential recyclables to the Indian River County recycling <br /> facility. <br /> 3. Both the Town of IRS and Republic Services recognize that Republic Services will not be paid <br /> by the SWDD for providing recycling services to the Town of IRS. <br /> 4. The Town of IRS recognizes that their residents will see an increase in their annual <br /> assessment as a result of the single stream recycling program implemented by SWDD <br /> through the IRC Property Appraiser's office. <br /> SWDD Agenda-Recycling Update for the Town of Indian River Shores Page 1 of 2 <br /> 234 <br />
