D . LAYING <br /> 1 . No sod shall be laid until the Engineer has approved the condition of the <br /> prepared area. The sod shall be placed with the edges in close contact. <br /> Where the sod is laid on a slope the pieces of sod shall be laid with <br /> staggered joints to minimize erosion along the joints and where the sod <br /> is laid in drainage swales and ditches the joints shall be staggered in the line <br /> of flow for the same reason. After the sod is laid it shall be brought into close <br /> contact with the soil by tamping, light rolling or other acceptable means . <br /> Where the sod may slide due to the steep slope it shall be pegged to firm <br /> soil with wood pegs . <br /> E . WATERING <br /> 1 . The sod shall be kept watered on an as need basis for the duration of the <br /> contract period and in no case for less than two weeks . When the grass is <br /> watered it should be at the rate of one inch or 620 gallons per 1000 square <br /> feet per application. <br /> F. MAINTENANCE <br /> 1 , The Contractor shall, at his expense, maintain the , sodded area in a <br /> satisfactory condition until 30 days after final acceptance of the project or <br /> until the end of the two weeks watering period, which ever is later <br /> (see Paragraph E above) .
