SECTION 02205 <br /> GRASSING BY SEED & MULCH <br /> 1 . SCOPE <br /> A. The Contractor shall furnish all materials , labor, equipment and supervision <br /> required to prepare the soil, fine grade the area and establish a healthy stand of <br /> ' grass by applying seed, fertilizer and mulch by the method in the areas so <br /> designated on the Drawings, in areas disturbed by construction under this <br /> Contract and/or otherwise specified herein. <br /> i2 . GENERAL <br /> ' A. GENERAL <br /> As early in the contract as practical the Contractor shall prepare the areas to be <br /> grassed and plant them so as to allow time for establishment of a stand <br /> of grass prior to end of the Contract Period. Areas to be grassed shall be <br /> approved by the Engineer prior to planting . Seeding and mulching will not <br /> be permitted when wind velocities exceed 15 miles per hour. No seeding shall be <br /> done when the ground is unduly wet or in an untillable condition. <br /> B . EQUIPMENT <br /> 1 . Fertilizer Spreader - The device for spreading dolomitic limestone and <br /> fertilizer shall be capable of uniformly distributing the material at the <br /> specified rate. <br /> 2 . Seed Spreader - The seed spreader shall be an approved mechanical hand <br /> spreader or other approved type of spreader. <br /> ' 3 . Mulch Cutting Equipment - The mulching equipment shall be of a type <br /> capable of cutting the specified materials uniformly into the soil and to the <br /> required depth. <br /> ' 4 . Rollers - A traffic roller or other suitable equipment will be required for <br /> rolling the grassed areas . <br /> C . METHODS <br /> 1 . Area Preparation - The ground which is to be seeded shall be prepared by <br /> thoroughly pulverizing the soil to a depth of 2 to 4 inches . The <br /> prepared soil shall be loose and free of large clods, roots and other <br /> robjectionable material that will interfere with the grassing or <br /> maintenance operations .
