2 . Application of Fertilizer -If there is reason to believe that the soil PH is <br /> lower than 5 . 5 , the Contractor shall have the soil tested. If it is below 5 . 0, <br /> the Contractor shall apply sufficient dolomite limestone to bring the PH <br /> to between 5 . 0 and 6 . 0 . The fertilizer to be used shall have a chemical <br /> designation of 12-8 - 8 . At least 50 percent of the phosphoric acid shall be <br /> from normal supper phosphate having a minimum of two units of sulphur. <br /> The fertilizer and/or limestone shall be spread uniformly over the area to be <br /> grassed at the rate of 1 , 000 pounds per acre . Immediately after the fertilizer <br /> is spread, it shall be mixed with the soil to a depth of approximately four <br /> inches . <br /> 3 . Seeding - While the soil is still loose and moist, the seed shall be <br /> scattered uniformly over the area. Unless otherwise directed, the grass <br /> seed shall be 20 part Bermuda and 80 parts Argentine Bahia. The Bahia <br /> seed shall be scarified seed having a total germination of 85 % . 10 to 20 <br /> parts of a Quick- growing noncompetitive grass seed such a millet or <br /> Italian rve shall be included to provide early ground cover. The rate of <br /> spread for the permanent-type seed mixture shall be 100 pounds per acre <br /> The rate of spread for the quick growing seed shall be 20 pounds per acre <br /> 4 . Mulching - Approximately two inches , loose thickness, of the mulch <br /> material shall be applied uniformly over the seeded . area, and the mulch <br /> material cut into the soil with the equipment specified so as to produce a <br /> loose mulched thickness of three to four inches . Care shall be exercised that <br /> the materials are not cut too deeply into the soil . <br /> 5 . Rolling - Immediately after completion of the seeding and mulching, the <br /> entire area shall be rolled thoroughly with the equipment specified. At least <br /> two trips over the entire area will be required. <br /> 6 . Watering - The seeded areas shall be watered so as to provide <br /> optimum growth conditions for the establishment of the grass . In no case, <br /> however, shall the period of maintaining such moisture be less than two <br /> weeks after the planting. <br /> D . MAINTENANCE <br /> 1 . The Contractor shall maintain the grassed areas in a satisfactory <br /> manner until 90 days after final acceptance of the Contract and until the <br /> seed has germinated and a stand of grass established .
