RESOLUTION NO. 61- 5 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County, Florida, has made an investigation and has determined that upon the <br />basis of an engineering and traffic investigation, that the speed of motor <br />vehicles on'State Road 5, also known as U. S. Highway No. 1 from the North <br />limits of the City of Vero Beach extending Northward to the present four- <br />laning immediately North of Wabasso in Indian River County, Florida, as now <br />provided and established by law is greater than is reasonable or safe under <br />the conditions found to exist on that section of that highway because of the <br />fact that said road is sub -standard,` narrow, rough and extraordinarily slick <br />and bears heavy traffic; and, <br />WHEREAS, this Board has determined upon the basis of an <br />engineering and traffic investigation that the speed presently permitted by <br />law on State Road S-607 from State Road 60 South to the South Relief Canal <br />of the Indian River Farms Drainage District and on State Road S-611 from <br />State Road 60 South to the South Relief Canal of the Indian River Farms <br />Drainage District are both secondary state roads bearing heavy traffic, <br />having numerous intersecting and crossing streets and in an area containing <br />a heavy concentration of residences and being on a principal school bus route <br />where school children gather to be picked up and discharged from school <br />busses and both of these roads have had in recent months numerous serious <br />and fatal intersection accidents; Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Cpmmissioners of <br />Indian River County, Florida, that this Board does herewith request the State <br />Road Department of Florida to make an engineering and traffic investigation <br />of each of the roads above descrthed and after the same has been made, to <br />establish a reasonable or safe speed for each of the sections of said roads <br />above described and this Board does after its investigation recommend that <br />the following safe speed limits shall be established on said roads effective <br />when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erectedby the State Road . <br />Department as follows, to -wit: <br />SMITH, HEATH & SMITH <br />FORMERLY <br />SMITH, DIAMOND & HEATH, ATTORNEYS AT LAW, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA <br />
