STEPS FOR GRIEVANCE PROCESSING <br /> If a grievance arises , the grievant must meet with and discuss the grievance with the <br /> Emergency Operations Battalion Chief in charge of the shift or his designee within ten <br /> calendar days (excluding weekends or County-recognized holidays) of the event giving rise <br /> to the grievance . In the event the issue in dispute cannot be resolved between the <br /> supervisor and the grievant , the grievance shall be presented in writing by the grievant at <br /> Step 1 of the grievance procedure within five calendar days (excluding weekends or <br /> County-recognized holidays) from .the date of the supervisory meeting . Such written <br /> grievance must indicate that the matter had been reviewed with the immediate supervisor. <br /> Step 1 : The grievant shall present the written grievance to the Emergency Operations <br /> Assistant Chief or his designee . The Emergency Operations Assistant Chief or his <br /> designee shall meet with the grievant within five calendar days (excluding weekends or <br /> County-recognized holidays) of receipt of the written grievance . A union steward or a union <br /> representative may accompany the grievant at the meeting if the union is not the grievant. <br /> The Emergency Operations Assistant Chief or his designee shall reach a decision and <br /> communicate it in writing to the grievant with . a copy to the union if it is not the grievant <br /> within five calendar days (excluding weekends or County-recognized holidays) from the <br /> date of the grievance meeting . If the grievance is not satisfactorily resolved , the grievant <br /> may forward the grievance to Step 2 : <br /> Step 2 : The grievant shall present the written grievance within five calendar days <br /> (excluding weekends or County-recognized holidays) from the date of the decision at Step <br /> 23 <br />
