to be available for work due to an urgent situation on off-duty time which may <br /> include nights, weekends, or holidays. <br /> Be The Department may seek volunteers whenever possible consistent with <br /> equitable distribution of standby time within a work area, classification, or <br /> shift, and consistent with skill and ability. In the event volunteers are not <br /> available, qualified employees will be required to take the assignment in order <br /> to maintain effective, proper and superior service to the community. <br /> C. In the event any employee who is officially on standby duty fails to respond to <br /> a call to work, the employee will be subject to disciplinary action. <br /> D . When called to work while officially designated as being on standby duty, the <br /> following will apply: <br /> 1 . All employees required to take standby duty shall be paid a minimum of <br /> one ( 1 ) hour at the straight time rate for each regular work day and three <br /> (3 ) hours at the straight time rate for Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. <br /> Time actually worked with a minimum of two (2) hours shall be paid for <br /> at the appropriate straight time rate in accordance with present practice, in <br /> addition to standby time and pay set forth above. However, in no event <br /> shall any employee be paid for more than twenty-four (24) hours in any <br /> twenty-four hour period, such periods to be defined as 7 : 30 a.m. to 7 : 30 <br /> a.m. <br /> 2 . The standby employee must remain available for communication by radio, <br /> phone or written message and have a county vehicle immediately <br /> available. <br /> 35 <br />
