Mr. Terry Southard
31 March 2008
Page 2
The proposed scope of work summarized below is intended to respond to the FDEP comments in
a cost effective manner.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
• Mobilize to the site (professional and site/field manager) and east of the existing
monitoring well (MW01 ) install up to five, '/-inch diameter piezometers to a depth of 8
to 10 ft below land surface (BLS - depth to groundwater estimated at approximately 5 ft
BLS) using hand auger equipment to supplement the previously installed piezometers and
provide lateral delineation of the pH impacted groundwater. Geosyntee assumes that IRC
site personnel will provide support in regards to the identification of potential
underground utilities and clearing proposed piezometer locations (the area the FDEP has
requested additional piezometers is in the close vicinity of site structures) .
• Provide oversight of the installation of one permanent deep-screened monitoring well
(approximate depth of 30-ft BLS), to provide vertical delineation of pH impacted
groundwater in the vicinity of the area of highest observed pH impacts using direct push
technology (DPT) drilling techniques. Note: Geosyntec will collect a groundwater
sample from the interval from 25-ft to 30-ft BLS via DPT and field screen to verify pH is
below 8 . 5 prior to well installation. If the pH at a depth of 25 to 30 ft BLS exceeds 8 . 5 ,
the monitoring well will be installed to a maximum depth of 40 ft BLS .
• Collect a complete set of groundwater level measurements and performing groundwater
sampling activities in accordance with FDEP Standard Operating Procedures.
Groundwater samples from up to 13 piezometers and two monitoring wells will be
collected and laboratory analyzed for sodium by EPA Method 6010 and field screened for
pH.
• Perform an elevation survey of the monitoring wells and all piezometer top-of-casing
elevations. The top-of-casing elevations will be referenced to a common datum or a
benchmark elevation at the plant provided by IRC . The survey information will be used
in conjunction with the groundwater level measurements to compute the groundwater
elevation and site groundwater flow direction.
• Evaluate the collected data and prepare figures which illustrate the piezometer locations,
individual analytical results, and groundwater potentiometric surface. Prepare a draft
letter report for IRC review which summarizes the results (tables and figures) and
FR 1329./CCR08028.DOC
engineers I scientists I innovators
