Users ; (see Chapter 2: GIS Organizational Structure and Staffing for more information on Tier 2 <br /> & Tier 3 GIS Users ) . <br /> y "1IExisting Hardware and Software <br /> At present , everyone in the department has a PC . There are also ten laptops being used by <br /> Department staff. All computers are running Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating systems <br /> and have access to the County network. <br /> The Department uses the following software packages at various capacities . <br /> 1 . CD-Plus <br /> 2. Centrax <br /> 3. Merlin <br /> 4. ArcView 9 <br /> The Department also has access to ArcMap. One license of this program is currently running <br /> on a server. Personnel expressed that specific individuals throughout the Department would <br /> benefit from having a copy of ArcView installed locally. These individuals include the <br /> " following : <br /> a . Department Director <br /> b . Assistant Director <br /> c . Environmental Manager <br /> d . Business Manager <br /> e . IT Director <br /> y f. Assistant IT Director <br /> g . Environmental Health Liaison <br /> Please refer to the GIS Software Recommendations below for a description of this software <br /> a application . <br /> 011-m Recommended GIS Needs and Duties <br /> The Health Department is poised to take advantage of GIS in support of various <br /> departmental functions . The Department has several GIS needs , including : <br /> • Centralized GIS Environment <br /> • Geo-Spatial Health Data Creation and Integration <br /> • Mapping and Spatial Analysis in Support of Heath Department Operations <br /> • Routing for Public Outreach Programs <br /> Formal GIS Training for Health Department Staff <br /> Centralized GIS Environment <br /> * The Indian River County Health Department needs access to GIS data maintained by various <br /> other departments such as Utilities Services , Building , Emergency Management, Property <br /> Appraiser, Tax Collector, Voter Registration , and Mosquito Control . As part of the County ' s <br /> enterprise wide GIS implementation , all department data will eventually be stored in a single <br /> repository where each department has access to up-to-date spatial layers . <br /> w This sharing of information will greatly assist the Health Department in fulfilling its Public Health <br /> and Environmental Health Roles and allow personnel to more effectively respond to the <br /> surrounding community ' s health needs .
