W <br />LJ <br />SECTION 120 <br />W <br />-73 <br />EXCAVATION AND EMBANKMENT <br />A. Earthwork, including earthwork for drives and retention ponds outside the right-of-way <br />limits, shall be paid for as regular excavation. Any excavation to the proposed bottom <br />elevation of the select fill shall be paid for as regular excavation. Cost shall include all work <br />specified in this Section and Section 120 of the Standard Specifications. The quantity of <br />regular excavation is provided due to the evaluation that excavated material will not meet <br />the specifications for roadway embankment. Any excavated material that does not meet <br />r <br />the specifications for roadway embankment shall be disposed of by the Contractor with no <br />additional compensation. Such price and payment shall specifically include all cost of any <br />roadway, lateral ditch or canal, and final dressing operations in accordance with Section <br />4W <br />120-13.3. <br />B. Earthwork quantities shall be considered as in-place material with no shrinkage or <br />expansion factors. <br />C. Subsoil Excavation — Any excavation below the proposed bottom elevation of the select fill, <br />isolated swale bottom locations, isolated locations for pipe installations, and as approved by <br />4W <br />the Engineer, shall be paid for as subsoil excavation. Approximately 2.5 ft of subsoil <br />excavation is required in sublateral canals and ditches located under proposed roadway <br />and drainage culvert improvements. Cost of replacement embankment shall be included in <br />w <br />cost of subsoil excavation. Contractor to coordinate with County representative prior to any <br />subsoil excavation. <br />.. <br />D. Embankment: General Requirements for Embankment Materials: <br />Roadway Design Standard Index No. 505, Embankment Utilization Details is modified by <br />the addition of the following: <br />Embankment Select Material (A-1, A-3, A-2-4) shall not contain more than 12% passing the <br />U.S. No. 200 sieve. <br />• <br />Fill materials shall be placed at or slightly dry of their optimum moisture content for <br />compaction as determined by AASHTO T-180. Fill soils will be dried prior to placement in <br />" <br />the embankment. <br />Any stratum or stockpile or soil which contains obvious pockets of highly organic material <br />• <br />may be designated as muck or unsuitable for construction of subgrade by the Owner. <br />Backfill material containing more than 2.0% by weight of organic material, as determined by <br />�. <br />FM 1-T267 and by averaging the test results for three randomly selected samples from <br />each stratum or stockpile of a particular material, shall not be used in construction of the <br />reinforced volume. If an individual test value of the three samples exceeds 3.0%, the <br />stratum or stockpile will not be suitable for construction of the reinforced volume. <br />1, <br />W <br />-73 <br />
