r b. Flanged pipe shall be faced and drilled to the American Standard drilling, unless <br /> special drilling is called for or required. Where tap or stud bolts are required, flanges <br /> shall be tapped . Flanges shall be accurately faced and drilled smooth and true, at <br /> right angles to the pipe axis and shall be covered with zinc dust and tallow or a rust <br /> preventive compound immediately after facing and drilling. <br /> c. Flanged pipe will be screwed on flanges shall be furnished with long hubs , and the <br /> flanges shall be screwed on the threaded end of the pipe in the shop, and the face of <br /> the flange and end of pipe refaced together. There shall be no leakage through the <br /> pipe threads and the flanges shall be designed to prevent corrosion of the threads <br /> • from outside . <br /> d. Flanged joints shall be made with bolts or stud bolts and nuts. Bolts, stud bolts and <br /> r nuts shall conform to American Standard heavy dimensions, semi-finished with <br /> square or hexagonal heads and cold punched hexagonal nuts, meeting the <br /> requirements of ASTM Designation A-307. Bolt sizes shall be American Standard for <br /> the flanges specified, and bolts and nuts shall have good , true threads. <br /> e . Gaskets shall be in accordance with AWWA Standard C-115 (ANSI A21 . 15-88) , or <br /> latest revision. <br /> 7 . Submittals <br /> Before starting fabrication of the cast iron pipe and fittings, complete detailed work <br /> drawings shall be submitted by the Contractor for approval by the Engineer. Such <br /> drawings shall show the piping layouts and contain schedules of all pipe, fittings, valves, <br /> expansion joints , hangers and supports and other appurtenances. Where special fittings <br /> are required , they shall be shown in large detail with all necessary dimensions. The <br /> drawings submitted shall show flanged jointed sections placed so as to be removable <br /> s without disturbance to the main pipe sections. <br /> 8. Marking <br /> Two inch wide detection tape shall be spiral wrapped or affixed to the top of the pipe. <br /> Tape shall have the words 'Water Main' in 1/4" high letters appearing one or more times <br /> every 24 inches. <br /> 9. Installation of Water Mains <br /> a . Unless otherwise noted on the drawings or in other sections of this specification , the <br /> pipe shall be handled and installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's <br /> instructions and with the applicable provisions of AWWA C600. If a conflict exists <br /> �+ between the manufacturer's instructions and the AWWA Standards, the <br /> manufacturer's instructions shall govem. The Contractor shall use every precaution <br /> during construction to protect the pipe against the entry of nonpotable water, dirt, <br /> r. wood , small animals , and any other foreign material that would hinder the operation <br /> of the pipe line. Where the groundwater elevation is above the bottom of the trench, <br /> the Contractor shall provide suitable equipment at no additional cost to the Owner. <br /> All piping shall be placed in a dry trench, unless wet trench installation is approved by <br /> the Engineer. <br /> r <br /> r <br />
